all good things September 20, 2006

must come to an end… or at least most of them, as in the case of Marche’s Crazy Tuesdays. Priced at rm38.88++, it was the perfect opportunity to sample most of Marche’s offerings that we would never really eat on any regular day. Things like the lamb shank (which is priced at almost the price of the buffet), risotto, grilled salmon and butter fish, oysters, smoked salmon salad, the list goes on. All these in addition to the regular stuff that we normally have like the rosti and sausage (yes, real sausage, not the processed weiners like we normally get). Yesterday was the last day of the Crazy Tuesdays as they prepare for the Ramadhan buffet coming up next month. Having as much rosti as I wanted was a big plus! Too bad it’s not being offered anymore, and I only got to go right at the end of the run. Hopefully they’ll bring it back sometime. The only drawback is that the price of drinks and Movenpick ice cream is not included in the buffet, but I can live without those.

Today, it’s back to cafeteria food (hopefully not!) *sigh*

parking issues September 13, 2006

UCSI… has… serious… parking issues.

today is awards day, and true to form, we staff were asked to park outside rather than being able to park inside. And climb up the damn hill. And HR only sent out an e-mail notifying all the staff about it at 5.39pm yesterday. That’s after clocking out hours for at least half the staff (most of the academic staff, which by right should be called faculty). I only got the e-mail this morning after I had to circle around for parking outside campus and walk up the bloody hill. Such wonderful treatment.

At least, then there was this to amuse me for a bit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDepABf9JOg (Airplane Safety Instruction Video)

Subway – best sandwiches September 11, 2006

one thing I forgot to mention in the posting about Phuket… at the main area which is Patong Beach, there is only one McDonald’s, but I counted at least 3-4 Subways! And the Subway there is really, really good. Much better than Subway here (are there any besides One Utama, anymore? The Subway here is ridiculously expensive!!!)

Alice says that it’s even better than the Subway in Australia. I think I’m inclined to believe her :p

boycott: Penang Village September 8, 2006

went to Penang Village in Taman Tun Dr Ismail. It seems to have changed management, the staff were rather cold (except for one very good waiter), the menu seems to have changed, and service was slow. The worst thing was that the food was very substandard compared to the good food that we used to have at this place. Ain’t going there again.

refresh! September 7, 2006

so! my first day back at work after a refreshing but tiring time back in Phuket. The place has changed quite a lot since I last was there in 2003, probably due to the tsunami. It’s still a cool place, though, albeit also being slightly costly especially for tourists.

Sunset Beach Resort which was just north of Patong was a nice, quiet and clean resort with good staff and a good spaciousness about it. The breakfast was decent (I’ve been deprived of bacon for far too long!) but rather basic, which was a change from the nicer and more expensive resorts that I stayed in last time.

Speaking of food, it was good for the most part. Like I said, Phuket isn’t exactly cheap, but it more than makes up for it in quality. It has some amazing food and restaurants there!

And one thing I noticed from Thai tv… it seemed like every 3rd advertisement was an ad for instant noodles. Especially the MAMA brand, which is really tasty and good. I tried the cup noodles, I think it was pork flavored, and it actually had little dehydrated pieces of pork in them, and was nice, spicy and tasty. Much better than our pathetic Maggi or Mamee brand stuff.
Oh. back to the work… but a 2 day work week this week will compensate : )
