came back from camp yesterday… rather eventful, but I’m still tired now. Just survived massive amounts of marking, and I’m going to rest now, so will post more updates later.
something lighter August 18, 2006

on a more lighthearted note…
flourescent drinks that so happened to resemble a traffic light. coincidentally the drinks that my colleagues and I ordered came in these three colors.
Carolyn, one of my students… trying to prove she’s related to my turtle… even her clothes match!
end of semester party, some of the students trying to do something weird with their drinks…
Malaysian drivers August 18, 2006

mood: annoyed; now playing: Pirates of the Carribean theme
this morning on my way to work there is a place where 3 lanes narrow into 1 lane and polite drivers merge into that one lane without much fuss. I was staying in my lane (which had already merged) when this green Iswara tried to cut in and stick to the car in front. The problem was that I was already ahead of him and I just continued in my lane. Apparently this Iswara driver didn’t like the fact that I didn’t let him cut in and honked furiously and flashed his lights at me. What, so now I’m the bad guy for not letting him cut in?! I didn’t even intentionally do it, I was just driving in my lane and not doing anything antagonistic.
I despise Malaysian drivers like these. There’s plenty of them near my workplace, especially at a u-turn I have to do. Some people try to create a second lane to try to cut into the u-turn, for what, just to get maybe 2 cars ahead? And on bad days, it goes up to three lanes trying to cut into the u-turn lane.
In short, many drivers here have an attitude problem. They break the laws of the road, and get abusive when they don’t get their way or people try to not let them do it. I hate the driving system here. I despise these people who jump the queue, cut into lanes without signalling, weave in and out of traffic dangerously, double park and leave their cars there not caring if another has to get out, did I miss anything?
food review: Iron Chef August 17, 2006

Iron Chef
where: CMC Giant, Cheras; what: Japanese food; price: $$; rating: 5/10
So today I went with some of my colleagues to this newer Japanese place near our workplace. It’s a small shoplot within the Giant mall nearby. I’ve been there a couple of times before.
The food is average, nothing special. The lunch box sets are probably the best value there, ranging from rm10.95 to rm14.95 if I’m not mistaken. It comes with rice, some meat and vegetable which is stir fried (you get to choose between chicken, beef, salmon, prawns, seafood), miso soup, potato salad, fruit and a small roll. The potato salad is nice, as is the spicy salmon roll. The rest of it is average at best, so it’s okay. Just no other better Japanese food anywhere else around.

I’ve been thinking of going to Shogun, the buffet at One Utama. In the mood for some Jappy food. It’s gotten quite mixed reviews, so I’m not quite sure what to expect, but I gather that since it’s owned by Saisaki, it would taste almost exactly the same (if not really exactly the same) as Saisaki, which is not a bad thing. Will post updates here when I actually get to go…
on a related note, Tai Thong’s dim sum promotion is still on-going, every Wednesday and Saturday every item of dim sum is rm2.80++, which is cheap for Tai Thong. And the dim sum is good stuff! I think the promotion ends at the end of this month so if you’re thinking about it, go for it. I think it applies to most Tai Thong chain outlets including the Summer Palace and Spring Garden restaurants.
Look forward to more food-related items coming up!

mood: chipper and tired; now playing: Hillsongs – One Day (the one that goes “So blessed, I can’t contain it…”)
Yeah, I haven’t been posting for a while! Have been busy with final exams happening and all. And we had to invigilate these final exams! (policing is more the word). This involves a mind-boggling 4 hours of my life (for each session of invigilation) doing nothing much except watching the students suffering in their finals. Just to make sure they don’t cheat. I think if students are really determined to cheat, there really isn’t much anyone can do to stop them. They’re just cheating themselves, after all. Watching mold grow on bread is usually more exciting than this.
The university calls it proctoring, and the people who do it proctors. I don’t mean to sound anal, but is it just me, or does the word proctor (or proctoring) seem to have the same root meaning or word as a proctologist?!
So, like I said, I’ve been busy lately. I just managed to submit the final assignment of my second last module for my masters degree last night (!), so it’s a short break before I start the FINAL module. It’s been a long hard road, but the end is in sight!
